There’s a moment every woman can point to when someone showed up for her. Sometimes it’s guidance. Sometimes it’s encouragement. Sometimes it’s simply being seen and understood. These moments shape us. They remind us that progress isn’t something we achieve alone. It’s something we build together.
This is the idea behind the theme for our latest episode of Common Threads: Give to Gain. In this special roundtable discussion for International Women’s Day, we had some very special guests come together to explore how generosity, mentorship, and community shape not only who we become, but who we help others become, too.
Give to Gain: How Women Uplifting Women Changes Everything
Hosted by KTLA’s Wendy Burch, this conversation brings together inspirational women whose lives and careers reflect the power of shared support. Democracy Clothing founder Caren Lettiere was joined by entrepreneur Misa Chien and Los Angeles Lakers pregame host Allie Clifton.
When Women Support Women, Progress Multiplies
Each woman shared her personal experience navigating moments where support was present, and moments where it wasn’t. They reflect on how mentorship, access, and encouragement can change the trajectory of a woman’s life, creating opportunities that ripple outward far beyond a single moment.
Because when women give to other women, the impact multiplies. What begins as individual support becomes collective progress.
It Starts with Giving to Yourself
One of the most powerful ideas explored in the roundtable is the importance of giving to yourself first.
As women, so much of life revolves around giving, whether it’s to our careers, families, communities, or others who rely on us. But in order to show up fully for others, we must first create space for ourselves. That means honoring our needs, our growth, and our well-being. When women give themselves permission to grow, to rest, and to step into their own confidence, they expand their ability to support others in meaningful ways.
Giving to yourself is not separate from giving to others. It’s only where it begins.
Building Communities That Lift Everyone Higher
The Give to Gain conversation highlights how women actively build networks of mentorship and support in their everyday lives. Sometimes it’s by offering advice or opening doors. But other times, it’s simply about reminding another woman that she belongs exactly where she is. These acts may seem small, but their impact is lasting.
When women create spaces where others feel supported, they create environments where everyone can grow. They foster communities built not on competition, but on shared strength.
Confidence Lives in Being Seen and Supported
At Democracy Clothing, this belief is foundational. Our mission has always been to create clothing that supports women — not just physically, but emotionally — by helping them feel comfortable, capable, and fully themselves in every stage of life.
When women feel comfortable and supported, they are free to focus on what truly matters: Their growth. Their purpose. Their impact.
The Power of Giving, The Power of Gaining
The concept of Give to Gain is more than a conversation. It’s a reminder that every woman has the power to shape another woman’s path through mentorship, encouragement, and simply showing up. And when women support each other, everyone gains.
