2024 In Review: A Year of Social Good

With yet another year almost behind us, we’re taking time to reflect on our top social impact moments of 2024.

We at Democracy Clothing have been honored to partner with several important organizations that have and continue to support the community in ways that resonate with us and you as our customers. Although we may be experts in denim, we also value the ability to pay it forward and shine a light on the important causes that make a difference in so many lives.

A New Way of Life Reentry Project (ANWOL)

At Democracy Clothing, we believe in the power of women to create positive change in the world. That’s why we spotlight and contribute to organizations and initiatives that help women overcome challenges and make a difference in their communities. That’s why we were proud to partner with A New Way of Life Reentry Project for the second year in a row.

The organization, founded in 1998 by Susan Burton and led today by Co-Director Pamela Marshall, is dedicated to helping women rebuild their lives after incarceration, meeting them with support, dignity, and opportunity. For Women’s History Month, we donated $1 for every order placed throughout March.

Circle of Mothers

Many of us at Democracy Clothing, and doubtlessly many of you, are mothers. Mothers not only nurture the next generation but also cultivate ideas and movements that shape a better world. Sybrina Fulton, Trayvon Martin’s mother, founded Circle of Mothers to bring together mothers who have lost children or family members due to senseless violence.

Her story inspired us, as it did many others, and we were thrilled to partner with Circle of Mothers to raise awareness and support their cause. For every order placed in the month of May, we donated $1 for every purchase to Circle of Mothers, plus $5 from every purchase made from specially curated items that were part of Fulton's style selects.

The Judy Fund

For three years in a row, we’ve partnered with The Judy Fund to raise funds and awareness around Alzheimer’s disease and the impact it has on families. However, Democracy Clothing’s connection to the organization stems decades back, our founder Caren Lettiere and chair of The Judy Fund, Elizabeth Gelfand Stearns first met as students at UCLA.

This year, we supported a new initiative: The Care + Cure Collection. 5% of every purchase from this curated selection of holiday styles went directly to The Judy Fund through the Alzheimer’s Association, helping to advance the Women’s Alzheimer’s Research Initiative at the Alzheimer’s Association, and funding care and support for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and their families.

DonorsChoose

We all know the important role teachers play in our lives and our children’s lives. They’re the unsung heroes of our classrooms and communities, but every year, educators spend an average of $500 of their own money on classroom supplies. That’s why teacher Charles Best founded DonorsChoose in 2000, a platform where teachers could post requests for classroom resources, allowing donors to directly fund projects that matter.

In September, with the support of DonorsChoose, we launched the Democracy Clothing Stock Your Closets Sweepstakes. Three teachers who entered the sweepstakes won a $500 DonorsChoose gift card to stock up on classroom supplies, and 25 teachers received a $100 Democracy Clothing e-gift card to refresh their wardrobes with our comfy, stylish jeans.

We all must face challenges and obstacles throughout our lives, but when we rally together, anything is possible. Stay tuned for more exciting partnerships and opportunities to contribute to the community, coming soon!

Help us spread the word about these collaborations by sharing this blog post with your community!
